My friend Sloane had a brilliant idea: what if she created a TTRPG about a world full of wizards, but who created all their spells using and manipulating root words? She’s still developing it, but having play-tested it twice, I can say I’ve never felt like I was creating magic hands-on like this before.
It both gives you the wild stretch of magic power that wizards can access (no wonder they don’t know how to unlock doors like the rest of us) and the satisfying granularity of composing spells from scratch.
She and her wife, Amelia, also created a deeply cool setting that asks what a society with wizards in it would feel like - if you were a wizard, who didn’t have to worry about money, about death (possibly), about limits, what would matter to you? Think more wizards pouring magic into their communities and relationships than building yet another wizard tower.

So what if wizards, but everyday? Wizards, but braiding hair and rocking babies and curing sheep instead of piercing the eternal veil of time itself (not that they can’t do that last one, but it probably gets old, fast).

All of which is to say, I’m getting to make art for the game! I’m loving playing around with different styles and characters for it, and these are part of the first batch of Spellcraft images.

More to come!
